Of course I have long been a fan of Joel Salatin. Currently I am off the farm, but I am happy that breeding stock and at least somewhat the idea of helped a family of friends get going with pasture raised pork that they are now raising and selling at the local farmers markets. I do realize that the show was supposed to be all about a Vegetarian Thanksgiving. I thought this title was pretty funny considering that she had Salatin on.... he takes delight in converting vegetarians back to meat. You're also right about the little comment she was making where she said "it will turn you off". I heard that and I got the impression that she was leading people away from meat instead of to the right kind of meat but she did talk good about grass fed and pasture raised. I think that in the end there were probably lots of people watching that would not consider going vegetarian so I'm so happy that she gave them another option. I watched the clip after Ethan linked it over at The Beginning Farmer, and yes she did have a lot of good things to say about grass fed/organic/etc over conventional feedlot operations. However, she was still clearly pushing the vegetarian slant...heck, even the title of that show was "Vegetarian Thanksgiving". It was unfortunate that she cut off Robert Kenner right at the end of his interview when he (I think) was going to correct her statement of "Everyone should watch this movie [Food, Inc]...it will turn you off". Turn you off to eating meat, she meant, which wasn't at all the point of the movie. That being said, Mr. Kenner made another comment that probably overrides the whole vegetarian slant, something to the tune of "As more people become aware, they will begin to think about alternatives". And you are right on there, Martha Stewart talking about grass fed, organic, pastured food options will certainly continue to draw attention to the fine work that you and others are doing and create awareness of the better food options that exist.
