On Thanksgiving morning I went out and spent a little time at the farm. The Red Wattle cross piglets are on a grass/weed/dirt lot that has one pecan tree in it and they are eating grain, pumpkins, and gourds but they love to be let out into the grass yard where there is more pecans [...] I’m happy to inform you all that we are sold out of pork for this season. We ended up selling a half hog and three variety packs and the rest is going to stay in the freezer for ourselves. We’ve been getting some great reviews back and I hope that many more of you will [...] After months of collecting fruit and nuts, setting up fencing, and letting the pigs teach us what they like and don’t like to eat, we’re finally eating what we like, PORK. Our two 3/4 Red Wattle borrows were finally taken to the butcher a few weeks ago and the last meat, the ham steaks, are [...] I thought I’d post a few pictures from this weekend. The hogs are getting close to becoming pork, as you can see. The grass has slowed but there’s some good stuff out there. And the pony training is going well. Since the original post on hog feed we have still not spent a dime on feed. Our last purchased feed was in June. The hogs are getting an occasional bucket of corn that we get free and the rest of their diet is forage, nuts, and fruit. I got a little tired of picking up [...] |
